Welcome to the Shippensburg Area Civil War Roundtable

130th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, Antietam National Battlefield

The Shippensburg Area Civil War Roundtable (SACWRT) was established in January of 2001. From the very conception of the Roundtable, the process of educating the community about the Civil War and that era of time has been a primary objective.  We try to accomplish that goal through the use of speakers who are recognized authorities in their field of Civil War history, individuals from the National Park Service, college or university professors, noted authors, local Civil War historians and knowledgeable members of other Civil War Roundtables.

Other learning opportunities include the use of discussions, including a “member’s night,” where individual members discuss topics they may be researching or family members who fought in the war. To visualize what we have discussed at our meetings, we take field trips to local battlefields and historical sites to accomplish this.

The Roundtable meets on the third Tuesday of every month from September through May, except in December, at the Christ United Methodist Church, 47 East King Street, Shippensburg, PA, at 7:00 PM. Doors open at 6:30 PM. Parking is beside the church just off North Apple Avenue.  Please enter the church through a door on the side of the church towards the rear of the building. We meet on the basement floor of the church.

During the summer months we have at least three (3) battlewalks/tours on a Civil War battlefield site led by a Licensed Battlefield Guide or Historian. There is usually a small charge for these tours.

Our meetings are open to the public, members and non-members alike. Our membership includes men and women, young and older, with varied backgrounds and different interests. Yearly membership dues are $25 (individual) and $35 (family) per calendar year. No matter what your interest is in the Civil War or history in general, there’s a place for you in the Shippensburg Area Civil War Roundtable.

If you have any questions, please contact us by email at: shippensburgcwrt@gmail.com

We look forward to seeing you at our next gathering!
